Court Merely Fines Petyo Petrov – Evroto and Even Removes Him from the Wanted List
The Sofia City Court found Petyo Petrov, known as “Evroto,” guilty of document fraud, but released him from criminal liability and imposed only an administrative fine of €2,556.
In addition, Judge Miroslava Georgieva revoked the European Arrest Warrant for Petrov, who has been unsuccessfully sought by the authorities for three years, as well as the ban prohibiting him from leaving the country.
The Sofia City Court’s ruling comes exactly one year after proceedings began over charges of document fraud on a particularly large scale and constituting a particularly serious case. Under the Criminal Code, this offence carries a sentence of 10 to 20 years in prison.
The court, however, found him guilty only of inducing Iliya Zlatanov and Dimitar Lambovski to use forged documents, and therefore released him from criminal liability.
“There is no surprise that Petyo Evroto was not convicted in absentia on the seemingly serious charge of document fraud — serious in terms of the potential punishment, which is comparable to that for intentional homicide — for which the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office had sought a 14-year prison sentence,” former caretaker Justice Minister Andrey Yankulov wrote in a Facebook post.
“I predicted the most likely outcome of this case back in 2024,” he added.
