“Quick Checklist”: How Geshev and Tsatsarov (do not) revise themselves
We are publishing in full the response we received from the Chairman of the KPKONPI Mr. Sotir Tsatsarov to the questions we publicly asked him last week.
We asked three things then:
1) Did the Anti-Corruption Commission take explanations from the Prosecutor General in the course of its investigation into the “Fast Track List”?2) Does the chairman of the KPKORPI believe that it is his subordinates who should be checking the allegations concerning him in the film?
3) How was the meeting between Mr. Tsatsarov and Veselin Denkov, who is under scrutiny by the commission that Mr. Tsatsarov heads, arranged? Can anyone under scrutiny by the Commission meet with its Chairman?
From Mr Tsatsarov’s answer we understand the following:
1) It is a subordinate of the Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev who will decide whether to check his supervisor on the allegations made in the “Quick Check List”. The Anti-Corruption Commission did not even find it necessary to take explanations from the Prosecutor General in the course of its probe.
2) According to Mr. Tsatsarov, his subordinates did not check the circumstances concerning him, since the KPKORPI’s inspection was completed on 23.06.2021 – before the third part of the film was published on 25.06.2021, when the allegations about him were made by Yane Yanev.
However, in the press release of KPKONPI of 25.06.2021, it is explicitly mentioned that Yanev stated in his deposition that his last meeting with the Chairman of KPKONPI was more than three years ago on an official occasion. It is this communication of the Commission that motivates us to ask the Chairman such a question. It now appears from his answer that the Commission itself had clarified the lack of meetings between Yanev and Tsatsarov as a precautionary measure before it was even known that Yanev would make allegations about such meetings in the film.
3) The answer to the third question provokes us to request that the information about the meetings of the Chairman of the KPKONPI with other persons audited by the Commission be made public in order to hear their complaints against the actions of the latter in person.
In conclusion, we wish to assure Mr Tsatsarov that the ACF is not involved in underhand scenarios to discredit anyone, but is acting entirely and solely in the public interest. We have published and will continue to publish every position he has taken on issues of concern raised by our organization.
