The Hearing of Ivan Geshev: Atanas Slavov, Marin Kirov and Prof. Momiana Gouneva Comment for BNR

“The Minister of Justice presented in good faith the Anti-Corruption Fund’s questions for Ivan Geshev [the candidate for Prosecutor General]. Some of the candidate’s answers referred to answers he had already given to other organizations, in some cases in writing. The other questions were handled somethimes in detail, sometimes via the use of aphorisms,” said Atanas Slavov, legal advisor at the Anti-Corruption Fund and lecturer of constitutional law at Sofia University. Savov said that Geshev’s answers tried to connect the organizations which had filed questions for the official hearing with a certain circle of political, economic and media interests, to which the candidate referred repeatedly. “Such statements imply that some of the independent civic organizatins represent other actor’s interests. This is an attemt to publicly discredit the image of these organizations and to obfuscate. To this attempt, independent civic society should give a decisive answer.”

As a small expert organisation, we prioritise tips that contain sufficiently specific facts about corruption at least at the mid-level. Please describe all facts and data (names, addresses, dates, amounts, e-mails). Attach copies and/or originals of documents if you have any. Please be patient – our thorough approach takes time. We do not handle cases that concern solely private interests.
