Varna will spend another 360 thousand BGN for an unusable fishing port

Varna is preparing to spend over 360 thousand BGN in the unused fishing port “Karantinata”, built with 14 million BGN excluding VAT, most of which is EU funding. The money is to be used to buy and install equipment for the quays, which are virtually inaccessible to fishing boats because of the sand-filled harbor entrance just a year after its completion.
Back in March 2021, ACF sent an alert to the Directorate for the Protection of the European Union’s Financial Interests about irregularities in the construction of “Karantinata” Port.
At the beginning of July 2021, in response to questions sent by Dnevnik, the Ministry of Transport informed that the port would only be able to receive 43 vessels instead of 116, as planned in the project for its construction.
