Nikolay Staykov: The Access to Information Act is a forceful method

“Unfortunately, we see the institutions hide behind barricades when it comes to providing information to journalists. Then we are left with only the Access to Information Act, which is a forceful method when none of the other methods work. You know that journalists’ normal work with institutions is to send questions and get an official answer. The speed with which a journalist will do his or her job depends on it, which is very important nowadays. The mass refusal of institutions to give answers when asked questions, especially difficult ones, also affects journalists’ work. Then the Access to Information Act comes to the rescue, and that’s why I call it a forceful method.”

As a small expert organisation, we prioritise tips that contain sufficiently specific facts about corruption at least at the mid-level. Please describe all facts and data (names, addresses, dates, amounts, e-mails). Attach copies and/or originals of documents if you have any. Please be patient – our thorough approach takes time. We do not handle cases that concern solely private interests.
