Mediapool: Botevgrad Mayor Found Free of Conflict of Interest due to Lack of Shared Home Address with Partner

The Sofia District Administrative Court has overruled a decision of the Commission for Anti-Corruption and the Forfeiture of Illegally Acquired Property (CAFIAP) concerning Ivan Gavalujgov, mayor of the town of Botevgrad.

CAFIAP had earlier found Gavalujgov guilty of violating conflict of interest legislation when he stopped the removal of cable networks installed by the company he had been running prior to his election. The court ruled otherwise since , once elected, Gavalujgov transferred all his shares in the concerned private company to the mother of his children. For the court, the fact that the mayor and his partner were not registered on the same address was enough to decide no conflict of interest violations had occurred.
