ACF Presented with 2024 Knight of Truth Award

The Anti-Corruption Fund Foundation (ACF) is the recipient of the 2024 Knight of Truth award of the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee.
The Knight of Truth is among several categories of the annual Human of the Year awards by the prominent human rights organization.
“The awards jury decided to award the Knight of Truth to ACF because of their work to showcase the public prosecution’s `(lack of) response to The Eight Dwarves investigation, in addition to their longstanding efforts to expose high-level corruption and to advocate for the rule of law,” the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee has communicated.
“We in ACF, as well as the other colleagues who investigate wrongdoing, are motivated by a basic impulse not necessarily related to the media sphere, journalism, or grand philosophical schools. This impulse, this feeling, typically appears when people are on their own and ask themselves why there is no justice,” said Boyko Stankushev, Director of ACF, at the awards ceremony yesterday evening.
“All human beings seek justice. It is about receiving recognition of one’s contribution, but also about the moments when your destiny depends on someone else’s decisions. Unfortunately, Bulgaria’s investigative authorities, anti-corruption institutions, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the courts too often fail to deliver justice to our citizens. It is still far too easy for citizens to be targeted, arbitrarily charged, and even convicted. Bulgaria is the kingdom of arbitrary convictions,” he said.
