Joeri has over 20 years of professional experience. He studied East-European Studies in Amsterdam and has worked on issues related to good governance, judicial reform, anti-corruption, and the fight against organized crime. He has worked for civil society and the European Union, in the Western Balkans, Bulgaria and Romania, as well as in countries of the former Soviet Union. For ten years (2008-2018), he was the European Commission’s Resident Adviser to Bulgaria (2008-2018), where he reported on the key rule of law issues under the EU’s Cooperation and Verification Mechanism. He is now Programme Manager Integrity and Accountability with the Netherlands Helsinki Committee.
