ACF presented its Annual Monitoring Report at the National Assembly

On July 26, 2022, at the invitation of the Committee on Preventing and Combating Corruption of the 47th National Assembly, the team of the Anti-Corruption Fund Foundation (ACF) presented to the MPs the findings of its Fourth Annual Monitoring Report on the State of the Fight against Corruption and Conflict of Interest in High Levels of Government, entitled “Anti-Corruption Institutions 2021: a Zero Year”

ACF Director Boyko Stankushev, the report’s authors atty. Andrey Yankulov and atty. Alexander Kashumov, Senior Legal Advisor atty. Denitsa Rukanova and investigative journalist Nikolay Staykov from the ACF summarized the main conclusions and trends in the fight against corruption in Bulgaria and answered the questions of the MPs.

The presentation takes place a week after the Prosecutor General presented his results on the fight against corruption, which differs seriously from those in the ACF report. The report’s authors asserted that it was not different data but different sampling and interpretation. The main conclusion of the ACF report is that the success rate of the corruption cases involving senior politicians and state officials differs radically from that of the general corruption cases.

“Although the Committee on Preventing and Combating Corruption existed in previous parliaments, this is its first invitation to the ACF to present its activities. We are glad that the MPs are aware of civil society’s contribution to fighting corruption in high places of power,” said Boyko Stankushev, ACF Director.
